This piece forms part of a series of artwork inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi. Brittany’s interpretation of Wabi-Sabi in this piece is centred around appreciating all stages of life. Not only is their beauty in youth but this sacred philosophy subscribes to building a full appreciation of the beauty and imperfection that comes with age. Brittany spent considerable time selecting gum stems in her local area walking before settling on this stem to draw. This subject was chosen for its duality of minimalism and complexity.
